Lucky thirteen

Since it has been a few months since I completed a Tabata workout there was no point in trying to repeat the efforts of last time. Also, because I am feeling particularly unfit right now, I chose a slower speed (and hence lower average power) for the workout. I put my ergo on resistance level 5 and chose 43 kmh.
In top gear that is about 100 rpm. It seemed quite slow, especially as the number of intervals increased. I think next time I’ll use the next smaller gear to up my cadence a bit.
I got through ten intervals without too much difficulty. Suddenly it became really tough. Twelve was difficult and it all became too much half way through the thirteenth.

I am hoping that this will become a regular feature of my week. I don’t know if I can bring myself to do it six days a week as Dr Tabata suggests, but four or five times per week should be much better than nothing and enough to make some improvement in my fitness level.
Next time I go up to 44 kmh. That will hurt just a little bit more than 43, but should be over a few intervals sooner too.

My ergo has always had the same seat on it as my road bikes. However I changed from a Turbomatic to an Arione on the road bikes several years ago but only swapped the ergo to an Arione today. Big improvement. Even better, since I took it off my commuting bike it is all nicely broken in and felt like home.
